Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre
Marchand (b.1981) and Meffre (b.1987) live and work in Paris. Initially pursuing photography individually, they met online in 2002 and started working together with the beginning of their Detroitproject in 2005. Steidl published The Ruins of Detroitin 2010. A second printing is planned for later this year.
They are currently completing their Gunkanjimabook, also to be published by Steidl, and they continue to work on a project documenting American theaters that have either fallen into decay or been transformed entirely. Their work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe and has been featured in the New York Times, The Guardian, The British Journal of Photography, TIME Magazine, amongst others.

About Theaters (2005-Ongoing)
In the early 20th century, following the development of the entertainment industry, hundreds of theaters were built across North America. Major entertainment firms and movie studios commissioned specialized architects to build grandiose and extravagant auditoriums.

Yves Marchand (born January 5, 1981) and Romain Meffre (born March 9, 1987) are a French photography duo, working primarily with a large-format view camera and concentrating on photography of contemporary urban ruins. They live and work in Paris.
The Ruins of Detroit, their series from 2005, introduced them to the general public.
Biography
[edit]Both natives of suburban Paris, Marchand and Meffre began practicing photography on their own in 2001,[1] despite having no formal academic training. They met at the end of 2002 through a shared interest in contemporary ruins, introduced by Timothy Hannem, founder of Glauque-Land,[n 1] one of the first French-language websites dedicated to exploring modern ruins.[2] They then began their artistic collaboration by exploring the post-industrial ruins of suburban Paris.
